What to expect during your session
1
What brings you in?
We’ll have a brief chat about any particular issues that prompted you to seek out Reiki, and to answer any questions you have.
2
Relax!
If you’re in-studio, kick off your shoes and relax on the plush bed. Choose from a regular or weighted fuzzy blanket, and sink deep into relaxation with a sleep mask (optional) while I perform no-touch Reiki. I will do a full body energy scan first, and then work on any areas that seem to call for direct attention.
If you’re having a remote session, we will follow the same basic steps. We can do our initial chat via zoom, or phone, or text - whichever you prefer. Then we’ll go offline, and you should put on some soothing music (I can send you a link to what I would use in-studio if you don’t already have a favorite) and relax.
3
Review.
After, we will have another brief check-in to see how you’re feeling and if anything came up during the session.
FAQs
What is the studio like?
There’s a comfy massage bed for you to enjoy during your session, and you’ll have the option of a regular or weighted fuzzy blanket as well as a sleep mask to really help you relax deeply. Frequency/meditation type music will be playing in the background. I do not use any scents, including essential oils. They’re bothersome to many people (including me!) and are hard to eliminate. I also launder the sheets with organic unscented detergent and organic wool dryer balls.
A word of caution: the studio is located on the 3rd floor of a building that doesn’t have an elevator. We are inside suite 210-212 with North Andover Behavioral Health. Their reception area is on the second floor if you need a breather between flights, or the remote option is available. The studio is up a flight inside the suite, on a mezzanine/loft style 3rd floor.
What is Reiki, exactly?
While the “laying of hands” style of energy healing has existed for millennia, Reiki as it is known today came into existence about a century ago in Japan. See the about page for more info about what Reiki is, AND what it isn’t!
What if I make an appointment and I need to cancel?
Stuff comes up, kids (and adults!) wake up sick, etc. I ask that you try your best to cancel with 48 hours’ notice. If it’s an emergency and inside that window, we can work together to get you rescheduled or we can consider a distance session for that day.
Does Reiki always help? Can it cause harm?
We are all different and respond to things differently. You may or may not feel anything happening, but the beneficial energy of Reiki works for our highest good and is going where we need it, even if we can’t tell where it’s working. Because it’s universal Source energy, it cannot cause harm. It CAN cause some unpleasant effects IF you have some deeper or buried energetic blockages that come to the surface as a result of treatment. You can think of this like a bubble under the surface of water - it’s in there causing displacement of the water and as it rises, it “pops” and disturbs the surface, but once the air is released, the bubble dissipates and is no longer occupying space in the water. These effects, if you have any, are typically more like aches and pains or emotions we can’t pinpoint rather than true physiological effects.
Are you healing me? Will I feel better after?
Reiki practitioners are simply conduits for the energy, which the universe provides. You do not receive energy directly from me. It is important to understand that I am not healing you - I am simply directing beneficial energy to you in a particular way so that it may assist your own energy in balancing and aligning itself. Like energy optimization! We are all made up of energy, and when it’s out of whack, we aren’t at our best. Reiki helps to bring it all back into optimal alignment. This can certainly feel like you’re being healed! It’s also important to realize that Reiki may make you feel amazing after one session but more likely, the benefits will build over time. Your energy didn’t get jumbled overnight, and it won’t be magically fixed in a day, either.
